Guitarist Joscho Stephan has been touring national and international stages as a Gypsy Swing musician for almost 20 years. In the trio with Volker Kamp on double bass and Sven Jungbeck on rhythm guitar he feels obliged to the musical heritage of the "Hot Club de France", the legendary formation that Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli brought to life in Paris in the 1930s.
So it was almost obvious, after quite a few CD productions, to make a recording under the same conditions Django Reinhardt and all famous swing and jazz musicians had until the end of the 40s - direct-to-disc!
The A-side is titled "Paris". In addition to original pieces ("Train to Paris" and "Valse de la Mer"), it features the Django classic "Are You In The Mood", as well as the pieces "Songe d'Automne" and "Vous et Moi", which also belong to the standard repertoire of Gypsy Swing.
The B side is a tribute to the recording location and the associated studio (EBS) in Berlin. Thus, besides hits like "Mein kleiner grüner Kaktus" (as an up tempo swing number), "Hallo, kleines Fräulein" and "Bei Dir war es immer so schön" (by Theo Mackeben), there is also "Kein Schwein ruft mich an" by the great Max Raabe. At the end of the LP follows "Wes Berlin" by Joscho Stephan, this little bow to Wes Montgomery forms the conclusion of the journey from Paris to Berlin.
